Tears of the Kingdom: First Impressions

I got up early on the morning of May 12 to play through the first hour of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which I reckon to be the sixteenth mainline Legend of Zelda game and the second for the Nintendo Switch.

It’s good, though not without faults.  I’m still recovering from Breath of the Wild and its insane scope compared to previous Zelda games, so Tears of the Kingdom is going to be a very slow burn for me.

Nintendo Labo VR

I bought a VR headset for my Switch.  I got it for Captain Toad: Treasure TrackerBreath of the Wild, and Super Mario Odyssey.  I have to admit that it’s rather underwhelming in Breath of the Wild, although I do like the 3D parallax and wonder if it’s how the game would’ve looked had Nintendo been able and willing to port the game to the 3DS.

The biggest problem I have is that if I play VR for longer than about 5 to 10 minutes, it leaves me queasy for the next hour.  I have a very sensitive vestibular system that simply isn’t calibrated for VR headsets.

Self “Help”

Every self-help author I’ve ever read is in dire need of a high colonic because they’re that fucking full of shit.

Here’s some self-help you can actually use: get out there and live your motherfucking life and stop reading the self-fellating blowhards who think they know better than you do how to live your goddamn life.  Make people hate you (but in a good way), because nothing screams success like people hating on you because their own lives are such shit.

I wish I had never wasted a single cent on self-help books.  I could’ve spent that money on food and Zelda games, dammit!

Favorite Albums, 2000 to 2022

One new feature I hope to establish here over the coming weeks is a list of my favourite music albums from 1960 through the present.  I have some other favourites lists planned, but for now I want to focus on music.

I’ve been a keen music listener since my adolescent years, and one of my most cherished possessions is my collection of CDs, tapes, and records.  That collection spans between 1952 and the present day.  Today, I’m covering the entire 21st century thus far, going back to 2000.  Selected albums will have commentary detailing my reasoning for the selection.

Passion

Prima: “Oh, I don’t really have any one grand passion.”

Secunda: “That’s terrible.  Everyone should be passionate about one thing.”

Prima: “Not necessarily.  It’s possible to have more than one.”

The Revenge of 113

Just a quick update this week: Still at 113 kg, but I’ve lost another 36 mm throughout my body and my body fat percentage has shifted from 32 down to 30.  I’m adding 3 km of walking twice to thrice a week as preliminary preparation for marathon training later this year.  I got a Nintendo Switch for my birthday and I’m looking forward to doing some exergaming on it once I get Breath of the WildImmortals: Fenyx Rising, and Shining Resonance Refrain out of my system.

Better to aim high and miss than to aim low and hit, so here’s to dropping a whole-ass kilogram this week.

113

A week into anal-retentiveness about my diet, I’ve lost four kilos and 98 mm throughout my body.

My current weight is 113 kg, down from 117.  I have 38 kg left to attain my goal weight of 75 kg.  My immediate goal is to hit 100 kg, the weight I was at before my most recent relationship.
