To all who served, thank you.

Love of country transcends political affiliation, birth country, religion, ethnicity, and race.  This Memorial Day, please just be American (unless, you know, you’re not).  At the end of the day, that’s what unites us all.  We spend so much time focused on what separates us, what divides us, when at the end of the day we need to focus on what we have in common, the things that we share.  Those are the things that have always made America great, and when we focus on those things, this country becomes even greater as a result.

If you see a Veteran, thank him or her for their service.

We are all American, and though this country has its faults, I’m damn proud to be an American.

Thank you to every man, woman, and nonbinary patriot who has served this great nation of ours, who has fought in the name of freedom and unity for every American.  Through your service, you have ensconced yourself among the pantheon of great American heroes.

And an even bigger thanks goes to the patriots who laid down their lives in the name of the United States.  Despite present events, I like to think your sacrifice was not in vain.

O say can you see
By the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hail’d
At the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars
Through the perilous fight
O’er the ramparts we watched
Were so gallantly streaming?

And the rockets’ red glare,
The bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there.
O say does that star-spangled
Banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free
And the home of the brave!
